Ambrogio, Milan.\r\nLate seventeenth century\r\nPen and ink and wash\r\n\r\nAlthough the orthagonal elevation (or head-on\r\nside view) and section had been devised by the \r\nthirteenth century, the use of these techniques\r\nfor showing buildings greatly increased from the\r\nfifteenth century. This drawing, which combines \r\nboth ideas, is an old copy of an early sixteenth-\r\ncentury drawing. The cloisters at S. Ambrogio,\r\nbuilt from 1492, were designed by Donato \r\nBramante, one of the great masters of the\r\nclassical revival in Renaissance architecture.\r\n\r\n620 (Given by F.W.
