In addition, the scheme provided almshouses for adozen destitute men and women of the parish. Soane began work on the proposal in January 1811 and it was approved in July 1811 but continued to under numerous alterations before construction began in April 1812. The complex was finished and \r\nopened in 1814.\r\n\nThis drawing was pasted into a copy of Sir John Soane's book Designs for Public and Private Buildings owned by Soane's assistant Charles James Richardson. Richardson built up a large collection of originals and copies (many of which he executed himself) of his master's designs, and distributed the bulk of them into two folio volumes, interspersed with the printed pages of the book. These volumes were bought by the South Kensington Museum (now the V&A) in 1863.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"An early elevation for the eleven-bay single-storey east or entrance facade of the Dulwich Picture Gallery and Mausoleum, probably done by C.
