The join at the sides is exceptionally fine and is barely visible. The piece is divided into three sections by the insertion of two vertical boards, also made of 7-ply. These run the full depth of the object. \r\n\r\nThe two outer sections are 355 mm wide (inner edge to inner edge) and the central section is 600 mm wide (inner edge to inner edge). The central section is backed with a metal plate, finished in baked grey paint. Four screws, one at each corner of this central plate, affix the piece to the wall.\r\n\r\nThe entire piece is coated in clear varnish.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Barber Osgerby","id":"C2946"},"association":{"text":"designers","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Windmill Furniture Ltd","id":"A4747"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"birch plywood","id":"x33282"}],"techniques":[{"text":"bent","id":"AAT53101"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bent birch plywood","categories":[{"text":"Furniture","id":"THES48948"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2008BT7468","2008BT7452"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES344312"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shelf","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1996","earliest":"1996-01-01","latest":"1996-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"1999","earliest":"1999-01-01","latest":"1999-12-31"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"W.1-2000","id":"O49200"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"W.2-2000","id":"O49202"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"1350","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"135","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"150","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"LOOP / BARBER OSGERBY / MADE IN ENGLAND BY WINDMILL FURNITURE","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"1999","earliest":"1999-01-01","latest":"1999-12-31"},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"English","medium":"","method":"","position":"Affixed to the rear of the plate which affixes the piece to the wall.","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"Label","note":"Label; English; Affixed to the rear of the plate which affixes the piece to the wall.; 1999"}],"objectHistory":"Purchased new from the manufacturer.\n\nHistorical significance: The Loop range is typical of a style of furniture which has become synonymous with 1990s loft living; simple, functional, elegant and light.","historicalContext":"Windmill Furniture's main business is custom-made contract furniture. However, recently it launched a new venture, called Isokon Plus, to manufacture iconic pieces from the 1930s Isokon Furniture Company range. Isokon Plus also collaborates on pieces by contemporary designers, starting off with Barber Osgerby Associates.
