the box is decorated on the lid and base in such a way that the design on each matches up, with poem cards tied to branches of cherry and plum blossoms, together with two different scatterd  <i>mon</i>, one of a stylised ginkgo flower and the other with barrels, the same as on the silver metal fittings, in gold <i>hiramaki-e</i> (low sprinkled picture) and <i>takamaki-e </i>(high sprinkled picture), inlaid with silver and gold foil on a <i>nashi-ji </i>(pear skin ground) lacquer;
