In the corners are four rectangular compartments containing respectively: a lady seated in a shell-shaped boat on the sea drawn by a swan, a water carrier, a thatched hut raised on piles, and a poodle with ribbon in its mouth. The interspaces have a symmetrical arrangement of floral stems and the border is composed of a row of 40 rounded compartments containing a variety of diaper patterns (stripes, crosses, lozenges and rosettes). The middle is plain and the outer edge scalloped. China and the Philippines both exhibited examples for export at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London.\r\nPineapple cloth is known as piña in the Philippines and batiste d’ananas in France.
