The satin ground is heavily embroidered with silver and gold thread in couched work. Embroidered centrally across the chest is a four-clawed dragon holding the sacred pearl in its right claw. Lower down on both sides are two smaller four-clawed dragons which are pursuing the sacred pearl. The details are picked out in blue, white, red, yellow silks in stem and satin stitches. The design on the back is similar to the front. \r\n\r\nThe coat is front fastening with red stone or resin buttons. It has long and loose sleeves with straight cuffs and a small standing collar. The facings of the cuffs are made of a pale blue silk satin embroidered with butterflies and peonies in coloured floss silk. \r\n\r\nThe garment has a light blue silk damask lining with self-patterned flowers.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk textile","id":"AAT243428"},{"text":"gold thread","id":"x30128"},{"text":"silver thread","id":"x29414"},{"text":"silk thread","id":"x30127"}],"techniques":[{"text":"satin weave","id":"x37324"},{"text":"damask weave","id":"x37293"},{"text":"embroidering","id":"AAT53653"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Satin-weave silk; embroidering in gold and silver and silk threads; silk damask lining","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"Embroidery","id":"THES48960"},{"text":"Informal wear","id":"THES48935"}],"styles":[{"text":"Qing","id":"AAT18478"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES313137"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Coat","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"late 19th century","earliest":"1850-01-01","latest":"1900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by F.
