The skis feature Rottefella pin bindings, a system which connects the ski boot to the ski via a pressed-metal plate, pins and clamp. Early ski bindings consisted of leather straps, but by the early 20th century more specialised metal components were devised. Developed in 1927 by the Norwegian engineer and inventor Bror With, the Rottefella (meaning 'rat trap' in Norwegian) pin binding became the standard cross-country ski binding system for much of the 20th century, forming a basis which would be improved upon by subsequent Rottefella models, as well as other companies.
