It has a geometric design in white, pink, green and orange created by warp patterning. There is a tassel at each end. Made by the Hakka minority.\r\nAccording to Johnson ( Patterened band, int the New Territories of Hong Kong. Journal of the Hong Kong Branch of the Royql Asiatic Society, 1976, 80-91) the mostly white bands have a cotton ground with the coloured pattern in silk or cotton and the tassels in cotton whereas multi-coloured bands are made from silk or synthetic fibres and have silk or synthetic tassels. These bands are used in several ways, as hat ornaments, to tie headscarves and to fasten aprons; Additionally, the played a part in marriage and birth rituals.
