They are traditionally associated with the annual <i>mela</i>, or festival, held at the shrine of the warrior saint Sayyid Salar Mas'ud, also known as Ghazi Miyan, in Bharaich, Uttar Pradesh. <i>Kanduri </i>cloths are brought to the shrine by pilgrims, who make offerings of food on them.
