Native to the Western Himayalan region, most common at 6000-8000 ft, though known to ascend up to 10,000 ft in altitude.  Deodar was was one of the chief timbers of India in the 18th and 19th century for it is a moderately hard and durable wood, with a high resistance to insects and dry rot.
