It is particularly close to the hilt of a sword in the Royal Collection (RCIN 11238), signed by its maker Muhammad Ibrahim and dated 1223 AH (28 February 1808-15 February 2809). See Kajal Meghani, Splendours of the subcontinent. A Prince's tour of India 1875-6, pp.154-5 (hijra date included without conversion, and the hilt described as 'late eighteenth or early nineteenth century). A dagger in the Royal Collection, also signed by Muhammad Ibrahim, has a similar cut channel filled with ball bearings. This was included in the 2017 exhibition at Holyrood, but is not in the exhibition book.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"talwar, ball bearings in blade; Arms, watered steel with gold overlaid decoration, probably Alwar, early 19th century","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["IND.LOST.1058"],"accessionNumberNum":"1058","accessionNumberPrefix":"IND.LOST","accessionYear":null,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":["2017KB3453"],"recordModificationDate":"2026-01-29","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-25","availableToBook":false}}
