This vibrantly coloured shot-silk dress has beautifully stitched pleats under the arm feeding into the gathered material of the skirt. It is common for underarm gussets in India and Central Asia to be accentuated by being made of a different, often brilliantly coloured, contrasting material - a feature that is also found in linings and the inner facings of hems.","physicalDescription":"Woman's dress (<i>pashk</i>) of silk with silk embroidery.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Men's clothes","id":"THES49043"},{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"India Museum","id":"THES286062"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006BC6586","2006BC6587"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"BRAIL","id":"THES394907"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tunic","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Baluchistan","id":"x32933"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"19th century","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Costume, blue shot silk, applique embroidered","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Crill R, Wearden JM, Wilson V, Victoria and Albert Museum.
