Inspired by developments in contemporary American crafts when she lived in New York in the late 1970s, she began her exploration of the relationship between materials and forming techniques and the concept of the basket as both structure and space.","physicalDescription":"It consists of layer upon layer of extremely thin cypress shavings wound around a roughly plaited internal form made from split lengths of cypress root. These were left long enough so that they could be pulled around and secured on the outside, thus binding the walls into a solid whole.
