The picture was well-received at the Royal Academy exhibition that year and went on to achieve iconic status as an image of Englishness. As early as 1825 Constable considered having an engraving made; this mezzotint version was made by his preferred engraver David Lucas in the year of the artist's death. With its elaborate, specially-designed gilt frame it is a typical production of the luxury print trade.","physicalDescription":"The Rainbow.
