He is shown as a four-armed god with a boar's head and is wearing a simple long dhoti pleated in the front. He is holding a shanka in his right upper hand, and probably a chakra in his left hand which is now missing. His lower right hand holds an indistinct object or figure, most likely the figure of the Earth Goddess Bhu,whom he rescued from beneath the cosmic waters, where she had been imprisoned by a demon. The demon is shown cringing at the feet of the god on his right with his hair being wrenched upwards by his lower left hand. Varaha stands on a simple splayed pedestal on a square base.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"copper alloy","id":"AAT10942"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"copper alloy, dark brass colour, casting","categories":[],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2011FA0428","2011FA0427"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES372051"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Figure","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"South India","id":"x44753"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"Former kingdom of Travancore according to the Acquisition Register, or possibly the Deccan "}],"productionDates":[],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Gifted by Miss.
