He holds conch and a pierced <i>chakra</i> in his upper hands and his head is framed by a small solid aureole or headdress.  His consort is exceptionally small, sitting on his left knee and turned fully sideways.  The base is complex, with a square, incised lower section topped by a flat octagon and supports a moulded lotus with a beaded edge. Major Robert Greville Gayer-Anderson was a keen Orientalist who had lived in Cairo for many years until ill health forced him back to his family home in Suffolk in 1942, the same year as this donation.
