Above this is a balustrade of carved and pierced panels in a late Mughal style.  The upper level extends only over the central arch and rectangular openings below; it is divided laterally into three sections, the central one divided into three arched sections  with a single-arched section on each side; above these are, first a flat projecting cornice with a trefoil balustrade and a curved arch over panels above the central section; above this is a flattened, compartmented dome surmounted by an inverted lotus-leaf design and urns;  it is flanked by similar, unflattened, domes with spiked urns on the top. The piece was commissioned by his father, Colonel HFS Ramsden CBE . A letter from Sir Geoffrey Ramsden dated 4/4/76 offering Burmese objects to the museum states: 'The other object is simply an extremely pretty piece of exquisite carving, on shisham wood, about 5 ft from L t R and 5 ft high with minarets and 2 mirrors. My father had this carved, to his own design in Simla about 1905 or so. It is too large for an average room and would look very pretty & unusual in a large room in (eg) a museum'.\r\nA label on the file (Nominal File Ramsden. Sir. Geoffrey, MA/1/R 123) includes a handwritten note: 'our overmantel' and the typed information 'Muhammad Yusuf & Nur Muhammad. Mistries, Fretworkers, Carvers & Joiners.
