Many of his surviving drawings are now in the V&A collections. The designs are humorous, intended for brightly coloured mass-produced ceramics. They reflect the popular late 19th century demand for comic drawings, which to modern tastes now seem rather feeble.\r\n\r\nThis design could have been produced at any time during the Victorian period (1837-1901). It shows large naturalistic sprays of foliage, suitable for a washstand jug. Only the distinctive shape of the vessel enables a date to be estimated, but not a precise one.","physicalDescription":"Design for the decoration of a ceramic water jug, of vine leaves and stems.
