Sultanate, North India, c. 1500\r\nFUNERAL OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT\r\nIS.31-1980\r\nAfter the capture of Delhi in 1192, Muslim rule was\r\nestablished in North India. A ‘Sultanate’ style eventually\r\nemerged in architecture and painting. Although often\r\nbased on Iranian models, the paintings show varying\r\ndegrees of Indian influence in the treatment of colour,\r\ncomposition and other details.\r\nThis manuscript page is from the Iskandarnama, an\r\nepic poem in Persian on the mythologised life of\r\nAlexander the Great.
