French collection\r\nPurchased with the assistance of\r\nthe Art Fund\r\nSmall paintings of court ladies were popular in Bikaner. They were often presented as nazar or gifts to the ruler on auspicious days such as his birthday or religious festivals.\r\nMany of the artists at the Hindu court of Bikaner were Muslims. They perfected a style that combined Mughal delicacy and naturalism with local Rajput subject matter.
