The scroll consists of 13 panels divided by yellow margins. The pata dwells mainly on the atrocities committed by the West Pakistan army after Mujibur Rahman's election victory. Bhutto, Yahya Khan and Tikka Khan are possibly among the enemies shown. A highly stylised machine-gun, consisting of a vessel or circle bristling with barrels, appears more than once, causing slaughter indicated by severed heads. The 'blood suckers and vampires' of the Pakistan army are set against the brave freedom fighters of Mujob in the accompanying narrative, which s said to end with a glorification of Indira Gandhi, who supported Bangladesh and is the greatest protector of all'. The scenes are a large seated man with two smaller men, severed heads and three seated men, three men and three others with a cow and severed heads, two standing men and a dead man on a bier and severed heads, two rows of severed heads and men, and a steam train with dogs and birds scavenging heads.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Dukhushyam Chitrakar","id":"AUTH327110"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"AAT15045"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted in watercolour on paper","categories":[{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"},{"text":"War","id":"THES257202"},{"text":"Bonita Trust Indian Paintings Cataloguing Project","id":"THES263148"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2013GT2614","2013GT2615","2013GT2616","2013GT2617","2013GT2618","2013GT2619","2013GT2620","2013GT2621","2013GT2622","2013GT2623","2013GT2624","2013GT2625"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES406567"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"scroll painting","id":"AAT33666"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Midnapore","id":"THES410781"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1976","earliest":"1976-01-01","latest":"1976-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Another pata by the same artist was exhibited in the Arts of Bengal exhibition, 1979. cat. no. 58.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Scroll painting, Jai Bangla, 1971 war in East Pakistan, by Dukhushyam Chitrakar, watercolour on paper, Midnapore, 1976","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"Atrocities in the 1971 war in East Pakistan.","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"battle","id":"AAT185692"},{"text":"trains","id":"AAT212738"},{"text":"corpse","id":"x36214"},{"text":"dogs","id":"x34865"},{"text":"birds","id":"x35043"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["IS.8-1980"],"accessionNumberNum":"8","accessionNumberPrefix":"IS","accessionYear":1980,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-06-10","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-25","availableToBook":true}}
