The aprons are called keshō mawashi and are worn for the ring-entering ceremony at the start of each tournament day. Often ornate and lavishly embroidered, keshō mawashi were paid for by a wrestler’s patrons. In the past, wealthy lords sponsored their favourite wrestlers.
