He has come to revenge his family's defeat and attempts to drown Yoshitsune. The warrior Benkei finally pacifies and subdues Tomomori's spirit and saves the group through the use of his rosary and by chanting Buddhist scriptures.","physicalDescription":"Woodblock print with colours","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Migita Toshihide","id":"A6804"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"block printing","id":"AAT53289"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Woiodblock print with colours, blind printing and applied mica","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Myths & Legends","id":"THES49005"}],"styles":[{"text":"Meiji","id":"AAT18567"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010EK3180"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES393997"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Woodblock print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1899","earliest":"1899-01-01","latest":"1899-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"37.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"25.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"Signed 'By request, Gosai' and sealed 'Toshihide'","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Artist's inscription"},{"content":"Meiyo Juhachiban","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"18 Honourable Men and Deeds","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Series title"},{"content":"Funa Benkei","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"Benkei on the Boat","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Print title"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Woodblock print, 'Benkei on the Boat' from the series 'Eighteen Famous Deeds' by Migata Toshihide, Japan, 1899.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.1793-1952"],"accessionNumberNum":"1793","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":1952,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-11-17","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-25","availableToBook":true}}
