In this series the hero and heroine are shown in idealised form as the Hindu god Krishna and Radha, the love of his youth. Here Krishna arrives while Radha is still dressing. A verse from the poem on the back of this painting explains that, wishing to fly to see his face, her heart grows wings like lotus leaves. This series of paintings is one of the earliest painted in a distinctly Pahari manner - a style of painting particular to the Punjab Hills of northern India. Applied iridescent beetle wing fragments have been used to suggest jewellery.","physicalDescription":"Painting, in opaque watercolour on paper, Radha's toilet is disrupted with the early arrival of Krishna who is reprimanded by the maid. Radha wears a dark red and blue skirt and covers her upper body with a pair of large lotus-leaves. Krishna in a deep yellow dhoti carries a lotus flower with a long stalk. Orange background.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"opaque watercolour","id":"x35013"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted in opaque watercolour on paper","categories":[{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"},{"text":"Hinduism","id":"THES48941"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Bonita Trust Indian Paintings Cataloguing Project","id":"THES263148"}],"styles":[{"text":"Basohli","id":"AAT18999"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2013GD5618","2013GD5551","2006AT4141","2018KW7650"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES403527"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"painting","id":"AAT33618"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Basohli","id":"x32729"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1660 - ca. 1670","earliest":"1655-01-01","latest":"1674-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"175","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"without border","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"255","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"without border","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"232","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"with border","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"322","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"with border","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Yellow border with silver margins, white rules and shaded surround.","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'sangara vipralabdha'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"top","script":"takri","translation":"'annoyance because of her toilet'","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"written in Takri at top of object"},{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"takri","translation":"","transliteration":"'121' ","type":"","note":"handwritten on object in Takri"},{"content":"[verse from the Rasamanjari]","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"Sanskrit","medium":"","method":"","position":"reverse","script":"","translation":"'The lotus-eyed maiden is desirous of watching your foot-path.
