This design was made for the pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, at the London Palladium, 17 December 1968. The production was directed by Albert J. Knight. Jimmy Tarbuck played Jack Durden.\n\nHistorical significance: An example of pantomime costume design of the second half of the 20th century and of the work of a designer who specialised in pantomime and variety design.  It is also an example of a pantomime costume for a principal boy and illustrates a feature of pantomime of  the 20th century: the employment of stars of popular music, entertainment and television in leading roles, rather than established actors.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design by Cynthia Tingey for Jack Durden in Jack and the Beanstalk, London Palladium, 1968","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Unique","id":"THES48864"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"Costume","id":"AAT209261"},{"text":"Pantomime","id":"x33686"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":["Jack and the Beanstalk"],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["S.117-1999"],"accessionNumberNum":"117","accessionNumberPrefix":"S","accessionYear":1999,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-08","recordCreationDate":"2000-07-03","availableToBook":true}}
