The male artist whose signature is below the balustrade, would not have had access to the women of the court to draw an actual likeness. This painting was previously owned by the artist Valentine Cameron Prinsep R.A (1838-1904). He was born in Calcutta, trained in Europe, and his circle of friends included artists of the Pre-Raphaelite group.
