He is seated with the right leg crossed in front of the left. The robe is gathered over the left shoulder, and a crown (featuring an image of the Buddha Amitabha) and necklace are worn. The right arm is raised but both hands are missing, exposing the holes by which they would have been dowelled to the arms.Originally covered with a white gesso which served as a base for painting and gilding, traces of which remain.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wood","id":"AAT11914"}],"techniques":[{"text":"carved","id":"AAT53149"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Wood, carved, with painted and gilt surface","categories":[{"text":"Buddhism","id":"THES48984"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[{"text":"Song","id":"AAT18427"},{"text":"Yuan","id":"AAT18436"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2017JX1878","2017JX1884","2017JX1885","2017JX1886"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES398861"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Figure","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1200 - ca. 1300","earliest":"1195-01-01","latest":"1304-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"43.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"27.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"22.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Historical significance: This figure was originally painted using colours obtained from only three pigments - azurite, vermillion and copper green.
