Thiers was the main centre for the manufacture of knives in France in the 19th century, and remains so to this day.  This knife was acquired in Dalmatia in 1912, together with items of traditional silver jewellery from the region.","physicalDescription":"Penknife, with single steel blade and hilt of horn dyed pink, attached on each side by three brass and steel rivets.
