It is possible that it was used as such, but it is more likely that it was originally made in South Germany as the frame for a hat buckle, where men used decorative buckles like this to fasten the ribbon worn round their hat.","physicalDescription":"Rectangular silver filigree frame for a buckle, with coils of filigree raised above the surface.  At the centre of each side, on the raised section, is a filigree rosette, with swirling petals and a central red paste surrounded by a circle of granules.
