They were probably used as paperweights.","physicalDescription":"Paperweight in the form of a dog and puppy; the dog with head turned back and up, holding the puppy, which also looks up, with front paw.  Carved from celadon grey-green jade marked with patches of brown and with thin brown veins running through it.  The animals have sleek bodies and rather resemble seals or otters, but due to the absence of horns, hooves, or uncharacteristic body markings are probably intended as dogs, of the same type as the popular Buddhist dog-like lions.
