He had been apprenticed to Thomas Watson in 1818. Thomas Watson was one of the most prominent of Newcastle silver-smiths at the time. Thomas Sewell was Warden of the Newcastle company of Goldsmiths some 15 times and is reported not to have missed a single meeting. The assay office in Newcastle was established in 1702 and closed in 1884.","physicalDescription":"Plain narrow gold hoop with marks for Newcastle upon Tyne. The marks consist of the sovereign's head, a crown, 18, a castle mark and TS. There is no date letter. \r\n\r\nThe hoop is slightly mis-shapen with signs of wear.
