It is part of a large collection of Art Nouveau furniture given to the South Kensington Museum by Sir George Donaldson in 1900. The tray's marquetry design shows a trailing pattern of Morning Glory flowers (V&A Museum number: 1984-1900). Gallé has signed the tray in the marquetry on its bottom right corner, where the winding stalks of the Morning Glory plant spell out his name. The marquetry design relates to that found on another Gallé piece - the ‘Ipomoea’ commode, named after the botanical name of the Morning Glory flower. Gallé believed passionately in nature as the proper source of inspiration for designers.","physicalDescription":"Walnut tray with marquetry of maple, pear, satinwood, harewood and other woods.
