Being Jewish, she fled Europe, obtaining a work permit for Newfoundland where she remained during WWII. She then moved to the US where she worked at Black Mountain College before settling in Peru. Her final move was back to Hamburg, her birthplace.\n\nThis hanging, designed by her in Peru in 1969, was woven by Senora Beatriz Arroya, described as a \"Peruvian mother of five\" at time of acquisition.
