It was selected by Madeleine Ginsberg, curator of fashion, to become part of the collection of the museum in 1970.\r\n\nLinda Divers (b. 1946, London; married name Linda Carville) visited the Museum in 2014 to view her design and said at the time that the outfit was designed for a specific project, whose parameters were to design and print a geometric print upon a woven fabric that could only accommodate geometric print designs. Waving lines would have printed unevenly, creating a patchy and unevenly absorbed design upon the textured fabric. The pattern was inspired by Fair Isle knitwear and stained-glass designs from the 1930s. Linda made the suit for herself, intending to wear it, and was less than keen when she was asked if she would donate it to the V&A, as she went unreimbursed for the expensive fabric (a \"French jersey wool\") which her mother had lent her the money to buy. Due to the suit going straight into the V&A collections, her parents never got to see it. She went on to have a successful career as a textile designer and maker.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Ladies' trouser suit, Linda Divers, St. Martin's School of Art, London, 1969.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.378-1970","T.378A-1970","T.378B-1970"],"accessionNumberNum":"378","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":1970,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Jacket","Trousers","Belt"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-08-21","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-24","availableToBook":true}}
