With a design of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. A large globe occupies the centre of the field around which are eight signs of the zodiac in a variety of colours on a blue, purple and mauve ground. The globe contains the remaining four signs in paler colours on a cream and buff ground. The globe, depicting the moon, is overlaid with the four Zodiac signs that contain human figures: Gemini consists of two naked cherubs, Virgo is a young woman, Aquarius is a man holding an urn, and Sagittarius is a figure with a bright yellow bow, arrow and bright yellow helmet. Around the outside of the moon are the eight signs: a goat (Capricorn), a pair of fish (Pisces), a ram (Aries), a red bull (Taurus), a crab (Cancer), a lion (Leo), a set of scales (Libra) and a scorpion (Scorpio). The carpet is edged with a border of yellow plaited ribbon.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"William Newzam Prior Nicholson","id":"A8697"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Rag rug technique (exact materials to be confirmed on viewing, possibly looped ribbon on canvas).
