It is quilted in running stitch with dark green silk thread in a border of abstract flowers and leaves around the hem, with parallel ogee arches above.  The petticoat is made of 7 panels of silk, with an opening at the centre back seam and pocket openings cut into the side panels and bound with 1-inch wide (2.5 cm) dark green silk ribbon.  The hem is bound with the same ribbon. \r\n\r\nThe petticoat was altered in the late 19th century, either for fancy dress or a studio prop.
