Several such roundabouts to play this game were set up in Parisian public parks from the 1770s onwards. The fashions worn by the players reveal that this piece dates to the early 19th century, as the women are wearing the high-waisted gowns associated with Napoleon's Imperial Court (hence, the common name Empire styles). The other scenes show Blind Man's Buff at the top and coffee-drinking below, while the main scene is flanked by a couple - a soldier and his lady - strolling in the park","physicalDescription":"Curtain of cotton plate-printed in red, quilted with rough diagonally placed cotton threads and lined with coarse hand-woven linen. A narrow linen braid has been applied at the top in a scalloped shape to suggest a valance. The scenes are arranged in three rows, one above the other. The plate was 37 inches (94 cms) long and over 36 inches (91.5 cms) wide. The plate was wider than the cloth.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Favre Petitpierre et Cie","id":"A36187"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton (textile)","id":"AAT14067"},{"text":"cotton thread","id":"x34841"},{"text":"linen","id":"x29412"}],"techniques":[{"text":"plate printing","id":"x33304"},{"text":"quilted","id":"AAT53656"},{"text":"lined","id":"AAT162124"},{"text":"hand weaving","id":"AAT53643"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Plate-printed cotton, quilted with cotton threads, lined with hand-woven linen","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2010CT5717","2010CT5784","2010CT5743","2010CT5679","2010CT5677","2010CT5673","2010CT5660","2010CT5659"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES311356"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Curtain","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Nantes","id":"x31192"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"about 1805","earliest":"1805-01-01","latest":"1805-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"61.75","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"157.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"51.5","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"131","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased.
