When the space bar is pushed a squeak sounds; when the ABC buttons are pressed (one acts for all three) the eyes spin. The 'ears' are red turning handles to the sides which turn the roller in the centre which is covered with paper printed in colours to show the letters of the alphabet with an illustration each, ie L and the head of a lion. When the roller turns a clicking noise is made. At the top back is a yellow plastic hat shape which rings a bell when pushed down.
