The full width of the coarse linen can be calculated from the cut and was probably 29¾ inches (75.5 cm) wide. There are no shoulder seams in this example; front and back were cut as one, the selvedge on one side, cut diagonally on the other. Triangular gores were sewn to the selvedge edges of the front and back. The neckline is deep and V-shaped, with a narrow hem. The body and sleeves were bound separately with linen tape, then loosely sewn together. The sleeves retain their original pleating with starch. The cuffs are closed and there are no laundry marks.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"linen (material)","id":"AAT14069"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand weaving","id":"AAT53643"},{"text":"hand sewing","id":"AAT257459"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Linen; hand-woven, hand-sewn","categories":[{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Underwear","id":"THES48880"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2021MU8940","2021MU8941"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES310407"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shift","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1740-1780","earliest":"1740-01-01","latest":"1780-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs H.
