The fragments preserve the clavi, neckband and one set of cuff bands. There are remains of warp fringes along both sides of the tunic body. The decoration consists of a repeat row of red rosettes outlined in black, their centres in undyed linen. Around the neck, from this band hang a row of flower-heads in red, yellow and green wool, alternating with black.\r\n\r\nAt one end of the tunic, a band from a different, earlier tunic has been stitched lengthways across the body. It consists of a row alternating lily petals and rosettes bordered by a band with scalloped design, in purple wool on an undyed linen ground. \r\n\r\nThe fragments have been mounted to a modern linen backing.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"linen","id":"x29412"},{"text":"wool","id":"x40131"}],"techniques":[{"text":"plain weave","id":"x37295"},{"text":"tapestry weave","id":"AAT61981"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Plain woven linen, tapestry woven linen and wool","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Africa","id":"THES49019"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MES","id":"THES48607"},"images":["2012FJ6679"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES313278"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Textile fragment","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Egypt","id":"x29512"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"6th Century - 8th Century","earliest":"0500-01-01","latest":"0799-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Ms Fannie Thomas","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"127","unit":"cm","qualifier":"Mounted","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"73.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"Mounted","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"The accession registers for this piece list it as originally coming from Gayet's exavations of 1898-9, which were displayed in Paris in 1900.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Fragment of a tunic, in linen with tapestry woven decoration in wool.
