It is knitted in stocking stitch with bands of diamond shapes in plain and purl along the front edges, hem, centre back and sleeves. The waistcoat was probably knit in the round up to the sleeves, and cut down the front; the edges turned and sewn.  False seam lines are worked in single moss stitch at each side.  The underside of each sleeve is continuous, with stitches picked up from the sleeve openings and knit to the wrist.
