The sole and heel are continuous with the sole being thicker than the heel. The maximum thickness of the sole is 0.75 inches (2 cm) and the heel 0.5 inch (10 mm). The design of the uppers has been influenced by running shoes and they have a padded band around the ankle and a thickly padded tongue. The facings which also take the five pairs of eyelets for the laces continue to the toe cap. The sides of the uppers are decorated with three regularly-spaced lines of holes. The laces are of navy blue cotton with plastic protectors on the ends.\n\nThe insides are unlined and the insole is of leather. Stamped on the inside heel is the Roots trademark.
