The motifs of irises, gourds and trailing vine in the fan-shaped panels appealed to the western perception, at that time, of Japan as a country which respected natural form as design. These motifs influenced western designers, particularly following the vogue for Japanese art which so heavily influenced the Art Nouveau style, in the creation of which Bing was extremely important.","physicalDescription":"Cast iron with gold and silver, cast and patinated bronze lid.
