After studying Fashion Textiles at Bristol University, she worked as a fashion stylist at Options magazine before launching her label Conscious Earthwear in 1990. Ratty designed Conscious Earthwear collections with a focus on environmentally responsible production and materials such as organic cotton, recycled fibres and certified eco-conscious textiles. Her designs were regularly featured in notable titles including <i>The Face, i-D, Vogue, Elle </i>and <i>Dazed and Confused</i>. The label was stocked by Browns, Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols, and worn by celebrities of the period including Macy Gray, The Prodigy, Lamb and All Saints.\n\nIn 1999 Ratty suffered a near fatal road accident and was in recovery for 5 years. In 2004 she returned full-time to fashion, launching a sustainable lifestyle brand Ciel. The brand was nominated for the Guardian Award for Sustainable Fashion in 2007. Ratty was a founding member of the Soil Association's Textile Advisory Committee, and the Ethical Fashion Forum and runs a circular design consultancy advising on sustainable approaches in the fashion industry.","physicalDescription":"White cotton jersey rave jacket with printed design.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Ratty, Sarah","id":"A6493"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"David Jenkins","id":"AUTH408470"},"association":{"text":"logo designer","id":"x43863"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Conscious Earthwear","id":"A26452"},"association":{"text":"designed for","id":"x41471"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton jersey","id":"x30560"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printed cotton jersey","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Menswear","id":"THES49043"},{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"Informal wear","id":"THES48935"},{"text":"Evening wear","id":"THES48999"},{"text":"Streetstyle exhibition 1994","id":"THES282706"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2018LC2143","2018LC2161","2006AT2856"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"011","id":"THES309649"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Jacket","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1990-1991","earliest":"1990-01-01","latest":"1991-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the designer","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Weight","value":"0.62","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Registered File number 1994/154.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"White cotton jersey rave jacket with printed design, designed by Sarah Ratty with logo by David Jenkins, Great Britain, 1990-1991.\r\nPart of the UK Raver outfit from StreetStyle.
