Bought by the donor at Oxus, King's Road, London.","historicalContext":"Afghan jerkins, jackets and coats were key items of Hippy dress. Originally worn by Afghani shepherds, they are made from undyed skins, cured in urine, hand-embroidered and brought into Europe and America along the Hippy Trail. This coat formerly belonged to the owner of the boutique Oxus, which retailed ethnic clothes and artifacts at World's End, Chelsea.
