There is a monogram on the underside of the truncation. The style of the bust suggests it is in fact a work of the mid-nineteenth century. The facial expression of the youth recalls Michelangelo's early sixteenth-century marble figure of Daniel. Socle signed with what is almost certainly a spurious signature and date. On the underside of the truncation is a monogram.
