He was accused of being in favour of preachers of the Augsburg Confession and sentenced to death by the Duke of Alba.\r\n\r\nThis is supposed to be the perhaps most successful effort attributed to Jonghelinck. The portrait is refined and delicately rendered; the figure of Fortune sailing over waves is graceful and beautifully modelled.","physicalDescription":"Medal depicts on the obverse the bust of Antonius de Straele surrounded by inscription.\r\nOn the reverse a nude female figure, representing Fortune, sailing over waves standing in a floating shell whilst holding the sail","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Jonghelinck, Jacques de","id":"A14520"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver","categories":[{"text":"Coins & Medals","id":"THES48974"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2011EW7062","2011EW7061","2006AF5948","2006AF4848","2006AF4715"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"031","id":"THES395317"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Medal","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Antwerp","id":"x28724"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1565","earliest":"1565-01-01","latest":"1565-12-31"},"association":{"text":"dated","id":"AAT54714"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"5.23","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"ANTONII 'A' STRAELE ' DUS: ' DE ' MERKEM ' ET ' DAMBRUGGE.","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"on the obverse"},{"content":"VIRTUTE ET ' CONSTANTIA","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"on the reverse"}],"objectHistory":"Historical significance: Perhaps the most successful effort attributed to Jonghelinck.
