This example, bought from the manufacturers, imitates Indian Bhidri wares, of black alloy damascened with silver, which had been shown at international exhibitions since 1851.  These wares were much admired for their stylized naturalism and elegant arrangement of pattern to complement form.  They were first copied in glass by J. & L.
