The Museum of Practical Geology (from where this vase was transferred in 1901) acquired ceramics production for its illustration of the use of different clays. The South Kensington Museum (now the V&A) was always more interested in the sources and influences on the design of shape and pattern. This vase is evidence of the late 19th century fashion for classical design.","physicalDescription":"Vase of glazed brown earthenware painted with black and white enamels in ancient Greek style.
