It was reportedly collected in Sulawesi, Indonesia. \r\n\r\nThe cut end-selvedges indicate that it was part of a series of designs on a long length of cloth. This type of textile was known as a 'piece-good' in the European trading company records. These long lengths were then cut up, probably at the point of sale. There are records of uncut lengths of this type of cloth being used as banners and hangings on festive occasions.","physicalDescription":"Ceremonial cloth of block-printed, mordant-dyed and resist-dyed cotton.
